Soult and his cavalry attempted to obtain the surrender of Kalkreuth's Reserve Corps but was put off
for several hours with the story that the Prussian King and Napoleon were negotiating an armistace.
Finally, Soult could wait no longer and as his infantry came up at 4:00PM he attacked.
The Prussian rearguard was able to hold off the French so that the rest of the army could escape.
What if the French infantry had arrived sooner? Could Soult have bagged the Prussian Reserve Corps?
